Ruth, Lingmerth, Muccini, Hosten selected as January Athletes of the Month

OPEN - Asha Ruth
Asha Ruth, 26, of New Yor  has been selected as the USATF New York Open Athlete of the Month for January 2018.   Ruth competes for the Central Park TC - New Balance.

On January 13 Ruth won the 200m and finished fifth in the 55m at the Great Dane Classic on Staten Island.  In the 200m she ran 24.02 and in the 55m she ran 7.54. A week later she turned in a career best in the 300m as she ran 37.84 at the Ocean Breeze Grand Prix.
 
The following week saw Ruth competing in Boston on Friday night and then at the Armory in New York the next afternoon. At the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston she finished fourth in the 200m running 23.94 and the sixth in the 400m in 53.97.  She returned home to New York that evening and the next morning received a call at work that a fourth runner was needed for an attempt on the 4x200m U.S. record at the Dr. Sander Invitational at the New Balance Armory.  Teaming up with Kyra Jefferson, Deajah Stevens, and Daina Harper; Ruth ran the anchor leg as she stopped the clock at 1:32.67 as the quartet broke the previous record set in 1994 by .57 seconds.
 
Note: On February 10 Ruth ran a career best of 23.67 for 200m indoors at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston.  She also ran a season best 53.77 (just .02 off her career indoor best) in the 400m.

MASTERS - Stefan Lingmerth
Stefan Lingmerth, 41, of New York has been selected as the USATF New York Masters Athlete of the Month for January 2018.

Lingmerth a native of Sweden who grew up playing Soccer and just started competing in track in 2012, ran 2:37.62 for 1000m at the NYRR Thursday Night at the Races on January 11.  The performance scored 88.44% on the age grading scoring tables.  Two weeks later he ran 2:00.56 for 800m; worth 89.03% on the scoring tables.

 

Note: on February 10 Lingmerth won the masters mile at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston outrunning fellow New Yorker Peter Brady.  Lingmerth ran 4:27.46 with Brady crossing the line in 4:30.58.

YOUTH - Siena Muccini 
Siena Muccini, 13, of Douglaston, NY has been selected as the USATF New York Youth Athlete of the Month for January 2018.  Muccini competes for the TSC Track Club of New York.

On January 7 Muccini won the 13-14 girls 3000m at the Freedom Games at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.  Her time was 11:07.48.  Two weeks later (Jan. 20) she won the 1500m and finished 18th in the 800m at the Ocean Breeze Grand Prix.  Her times were 5:04.17 and 2:43.20.

High School - Carlon Hosten
Carlon Hosten, 18, of Bronx, N.Y. has been selected as the USATF New York High School Athlete of the Month for January 2018.  He is a senior at Taft Educational Campus.

On January 20 Hosten ran 6.41 to win the 55m at the New Balance Games at the New Balance Armory in New York. His time was just off his career and season best of 6.39 (’18 NY #1; ’18 U.S. #10; #14 NY all-time) that he ran in December at the AT&T Coaches Hall of Fame Invitational. 

A week later (Jan. 26) at the Dr. Sander Invitational at the Armory in New York he finished second in the 300m running 33.83 (’18 NY #1; “18 U.S. #6).
